Manual Defrost Guide
When to Defrost
- Frost buildup exceeds 1/4 inch thickness
- Reduced cooling efficiency
- Difficulty closing freezer door
- Recommended every 3-6 months depending on usage
Step-by-Step Defrost Procedure
- Preparation: Remove all food items and store in a cool place or alternative refrigerator.
- Turn Off: Unplug the refrigerator from the electrical outlet.
- Remove Shelves: Take out all removable shelves, drawers, and storage bins.
- Place Towels: Place towels around the base of the refrigerator to catch melting water.
- Natural Defrosting: Leave the doors open and allow frost to melt naturally (4-8 hours).
- Accelerate Process: For faster defrosting, place bowls of hot water inside the freezer compartment.
- Clean Interior: Once defrosted, clean the interior with mild soap and warm water solution.
- Dry Thoroughly: Wipe all surfaces completely dry before reassembling.
- Restart: Replace all items, plug in the refrigerator, and set to desired temperature.
Defrost Tips
- Plan defrosting when food supplies are low
- Use a plastic spatula to gently remove loose ice chunks
- Clean the refrigerator interior thoroughly during defrosting
- Check door seals for proper closure after defrosting
- Monitor temperature for 24 hours after restarting
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Refrigerator not cooling | Power issue, thermostat setting, door not closed | Check power supply, adjust thermostat, ensure door seals properly |
| Excessive frost buildup | Frequent door opening, damaged door seal, high humidity | Reduce door openings, check door seal, defrost more frequently |
| Water leakage | Overfilled defrost water pan, clogged drain | Empty defrost water pan, clear drain channel |
| Unusual noises | Uneven leveling, loose parts, compressor issues | Level the refrigerator, tighten loose parts, contact service |
| Door not sealing properly | Dirty door seals, misaligned door, worn seals | Clean door seals, adjust door alignment, replace if necessary |
| Food freezing in refrigerator | Thermostat set too cold, poor air circulation | Adjust thermostat setting, ensure proper air circulation |
Maintenance Schedule
